Boston lock & key help

Commercial locksmith in Boston, MA

Discuss Boston business-door problems, staff key changes and suitable lock work. Start with the entrance, the symptoms and the authorized contact.

Separate a door problem from an access change

A key that no longer turns, a door that will not latch and a request to change staff keys lead to different conversations. Tell us what has changed, which entrance is affected and whether the business can currently secure it.

For a shop or office in a mixed-use building, explain whether the entrance belongs only to your business or is shared with other occupants. The property manager may need to coordinate the request.

Changing who has a key

When a staff member leaves or a tenant changes, list the affected doors and any keys shared across them. Suitable cylinders may be candidates for rekeying, but a master-key arrangement or restricted key system needs individual assessment.

Do not assume every lock can be combined onto one key. Existing hardware, keyways and management requirements affect the options. Describe the intended access arrangement before promising a change to employees or occupants.

Give the visit a clear scope

Arrange for an authorized person to explain the problem and discuss the estimate. Note any building-access instructions and when the entrance is used. If the door has a closer, exit hardware or electronic equipment, say so rather than treating it as an ordinary standalone lock.

Specialist systems and work that changes a building-wide access arrangement need capability and scope confirmation. An online service description is not an assurance that every existing system can be modified.

Lock cylinder and pull handle on an aluminum storefront door.

Worth knowing.

Can the same key work on several business doors?

Sometimes, with compatible hardware and an appropriate access plan. Describe the existing locks and any master-key or property-management arrangement so suitability can be assessed.

Should I mention a door closer or exit bar?

Yes. Describe the complete entrance setup. Closing hardware and exit equipment can change the scope of the problem and the kind of work required.
